In this comprehensive CE course, Aachan ("Master") James lays the foundation for a clear understanding of Thai massage and the spiritual roots and perspectives that have endured for thousands of years. Dr. James discusses benefits and contraindications, origins of Thai massage, different styles (the Southern Royal Method, Northern Style, and Buddhai Sawan School), Ayurvedic anatomy (the primary Chakras and Sen lines), client assessment, and room set-up. He then walks you step-by-step through the therapeutic techniques comprising a complete mat Thai massage session. Throughout, he addresses balance vs. structural corrections; steps emulating energy flow; 10 key points for balance; working on position, attitude, relationship, and transition; and, breath, emphasis, and pressure. Beginning with Puja (affirmation), Dr. James demonstrates techniques in the traditional Five Attitudes/Postures: Supine, Side Lying, Prone, Abdomen and Leg Stretching, and Seated. Techniques include gentle rocking; deep stretching; striking; kneading; pinching and rolling; pulling, rotations, and rhythmic compression with thumbs, palms, elbows, forearms, knees, and feet.

In the first Thai massage services demonstration Dr. James demonstrates a complete basic routine on the mat with over 19 basic asanas (or therapeutic postures).

Customer Reviews
“Great instruction to transitioning the client’s and therapist’s body in preparation for the next manipulation. I also appreciate that the entire session is shown, rather than simply stating “repeat this three times”, etc. We see in these videos the actual progression of the session in its entirety. I like when the technique is demonstrated on the 2nd side (left/right), the explanation continues but we see it more in “real time” so we get a good feel for how the session flows. Very good explanation of why we do the various techniques and of body mechanics for the therapist. Addressing the knee is great since many modalities teach avoiding the knee completely.” H.
